Spark No. 9 collaborates with clients to develop, test, and validate growth strategy, including new product development, rebranding, pivots, and new audiences for existing products.
Spark validates strategy using next-gen market research techniques by using ad campaigns to test growth strategy. Our multivariate methodology is more effective than traditional research because a) we reach people in real-life settings such as social media, and b) we track actual behavior—clicks on ads, signups on landing pages, and so on—to measure interest and engagement.
We are experts at defining discrete online audiences, using lifestyle and other factors, and then measuring how audiences respond to brand and message. Our goal: to identify product-market fit. Our deliverable: road-tested, scalable, statistically valid customer acquisition strategies.
Spark no. 9 is in search of a Director of Strategy & Innovation who can bring business opportunities to life as multiple strategies for testing via ad campaigns, landing pages, and related content.
Strategy. You come at strategy and innovation with an entrepreneur’s mindset, looking beyond incremental growth for step-change opportunities. By analyzing industry landscapes to identify areas of opportunity, you can identify and articulate unmet customer needs that may match a client’s capabilities. You are an eager collaborator and can work with a team to imagine how a business opportunity might come to life as a product or a customer acquisition campaign.
Development. You are creative, and you can imagine more than one way to pursue an opportunity. You communicate well and can work with Spark’s talented design team to bring parallel strategies to life as side-by-side customer journeys for testing with discrete audiences. You understand the importance of detail—the right copy, the perfect image, the appropriate call to action—in bringing new strategies to life at every stage of the journey.
Testing. You understand the concept of variables, testing, and the scientific method, and you are willing to a) eliminate product concepts, positions, audiences, and other factors that aren’t producing results and b) invent and iterate as needed to find product-market fit—because it’s all part of a process of learning.
You have well-developed analytical skills, and you appreciate the value of data in providing insights about which product concepts and brand positions resonate with different audiences. You use metrics about how audiences respond to new product concepts and other factors to shape business strategy.
Synthesis. You are skilled at integrating test results into actionable learnings that shape strategy. With other team members, you can articulate strategy using test results and other learnings to build logical underpinnings for recommendations.
Other. You are comfortable building relationships with clients and adept at delivering results and recommendations, even when they are different from the clients’ expectations.
We hire capable people who wear multiple hats - mortars, not bricks, if you will. If you have a non-traditional background (studied philosophy, took a year off to hike through the Andes), and believe you would kill it at this job, we want to hear from you.
Spark No.9 is a rapidly growing firm. There will be many ways for you to evolve your role as the company expands.
